Controller & VP of Accounting – Eggleston Corporate – Enjoy a rewarding and challenging position with a nonprofit organization that has been helping educate, train, and provide employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities since 1955. We are currently seeking applicants for a full time Controller & VP of Accounting that will oversee accounting related functions including but not limited to bookkeeping, payroll, month end close, internal controls, and internal reporting. In addition, the position will work closely with the CFO on several finance functions including, but not limited to budgeting, mergers and acquisitions, external reporting, and analysis. The position reports directly to the CFO.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Oversees corporate accountant(s) and specialist functions in Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Payroll.
– Oversees the schedules and responsibilities of staff in the department.
– Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations with goals included.
Duties/Responsibilities:
– In collaboration with other executive staff, and skilled and trusted departmental employees, develops, implements, operates, maintains, and controls the essential operating systems for the organization, including but not limited to data capture, data storage, and security of the organizations assets both tangible, and intangible.
– Stays current on Eggleston programs and operations and maintains knowledge of developments and trends in the industry Eggleston operates in including finance, administration, and technological advances that can help the organization.
– Ensure all processes and workflows are performed by specialist functions (AR, AP, PR) in collaboration with the corporate accountant(s).
– Perform month end close in collaboration with accountant(s) and recommend improvements to CFO when necessary.
– Monitor internal controls and improve as needed in collaboration with the CFO.
– Prepare and distribute internal and external reports in collaboration with the CFO and make recommendations to improve and/or add new and improved reporting standards.
– Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational laws, regulations, guidelines, and best practices, including but not limited to tax laws, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), federal acquisition regulations (FAR), and cost accounting standards (CAS).
– Works with individual finance team members on developing goals annually, monitoring of those goals quarterly, and ensures strategic alignment of those goals annually with CFO.
– Prepares all finance team evaluations and seeks input from CFO.
– Prepares budgets for grant proposals in collaboration with CFO and performs all grant billing in a timely fashion and in collaboration with both the grant administrator and the programs team as needed.
– Assist the CFO as needed with annual budget, mergers and acquisitions, and analysis as needed.
– Performs other duties as required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
– Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
– Ability to maintain a high level of customer service daily both internally and externally.
– Thorough knowledge of financial best practices and requirements in the nonprofit field specific to Eggleston with a proven ability to provide sound and ethical financial counsel to executive leadership.
– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
– Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
– Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
– Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 including applications such as, but not limited to Excel, Word, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and Planner.
Education and Experience:
– Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; MBA preferred.
– Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) status preferred.
– At least ten years of experience in the financial function of a company required.
Physical Requirements:
– Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
– Ability to lift 15 pounds at times.
– Must be able to travel locally.
– Possible travel outside the local area might be required at certain point(s) during the year.
