Unit Coordinator – Beacon House – Norfolk, VA – Enjoy a rewarding and challenging position with a nonprofit organization that has been helping educate, train, and provide employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities since 1955. We are currently seeking applicants for a full-time Unit Coordinator who will be responsible for the development and implementation of the day-to-day operations of the Clubhouse Program while working together with members and other Unit Coordinators to promote strong Clubhouse relationships.
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties and responsibilities represent the essential functions of this job that an individual must be able to perform with or without a reasonable accommodation:
– Assist clubhouse members in defining their needs and formulating goals and objectives to coordinate individual service plans
– Engage in the work-ordered day and coordinate appropriate unit activities with members
– Participate in planning and implementing clubhouse activities and responsibilities to maintain sound cooperative relationships between work and non-work aspects of the program
– Work side by side with program members to engage, motivate, coordinate, and complete all unit tasks
– Serve as advisor to a caseload of members, providing advocacy and support, which requires that one keep informed of professional developments and trends pertinent to clubhouse model standards
– Maintain confidential member files and ensure that related goal documentation is completed promptly and meets established program standards, to include keeping required records and submitting required reports
– Work individually and cooperatively to maintain and improve high-quality program services
– Working in accordance with IBICA clubhouse standards and CARF standards
– Help staff the club’s evening, weekend, and holiday program as applicable
– Attends staff meetings, case review meetings, and staff training activities as required
– Other duties as assigned
– Local travel required in personal or program vehicle

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, & EXPERIENCE:
The following qualifications represent the training, education, certifications, licensures, and/or work experience required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities successfully:
– Degree in human services, psychology, rehabilitation, social work, or any combination of equivalent education and experience
– Minimum of three years of experience providing community-based services to persons with brain injuries
– General understanding of serious mental disabilities and physical or sensory disabilities
– Basic understanding of the clubhouse model and person-centered philosophy
– Sound professional ethics and boundaries
– Excellent oral and written communication skills
– Capable of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, families, referral sources, and members of the community
– Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize multiple tasks and quickly adapt to changes in job routines
– Effective use of technology and information systems, including, but not limited to, Microsoft 365
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Physical demands: Performing the duties of this job requires near visual acuity, the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds, and gross manipulation. Additionally, the employee:
– Must be free of tuberculosis in a communicable form
– Must be able to lift 20 pounds
– Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time(up to two hours)
– Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
– Must be able to provide direct support services for individuals with physical and/or intellectual disabilities, which may involve crouching, stooping, or reaching at/below shoulder level and overhead
Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be in an office or indoor setting, or externally in community settings. Indoor environmental conditions will vary according to the weather conditions prevalent at the time, and exposure to inclement weather and extreme temperature variations can be expected when in community settings. The noise level in the work environment will vary. While working with individuals with mental/physical disabilities, exposure to physical risks from behaviorally challenged individuals and contact exposure to human pathogens and/or biohazards is possible
