Job Profile Summary:
Provides clinical and operational support for the Investigational Drug Service (IDS); assumes responsibility for medication management for patients enrolled in research studies.
Primary Duties:
Assists in the development of policies and procedures for the 7 North IDS pharmacy.
Provide clinical and operational services to patients enrolled in clinical research studies.
Supervises and assists IDS associates in establishing and maintaining adequate and easily retrievable record keeping systems for protocols, drug inventory, manufacturing and dispensing of investigational drugs.
Assures that the order received is complete and accurate.
Enters orders into the BDM pharmacy system or verifies orders entered via CPOE.
Assures that all medications are prepared correctly.
Provides clinical pharmacy support to the research coordinators and investigators.
Assists IDS Director in preparation of pre-printed orders.
Assists IDS Director in creating and maintaining pharmacy and CPOE computer entries for investigational agents.
Acts as a liaison between pharmacy, nursing, study coordinators and the medical staff to educate health professionals regarding current drug-related procedures, Clincial Research Services procedures, policies, guidelines, and pathways.
Mentors pharmacists in training including, but not limited to, pharmacy students during IPPE and APPE rotations and pharmacy residents.
Provides educational inservices to pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals both formally and informally.
Attends meetings as required, including pharmacy department meetings (including Journal Club), multidisciplinary meetings, service-specific meetings, and educational inservices.
Attends site initiation meetings as needed.
Monitors IDS stock and informs IDS director IDS ordering designee when stock needs to be reordered.
Assists IDS Director and associates with monitor visits as needed.
Helps maintain IDS databases.
Assists network pharmacists as necessary to assure that investigational agents, prepared at Roswell Park for the network site is correct and transported appropriately.
May perform the duties of Clinical Pharmacist – General as required.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety and compliance standards.
Enhances professional growth and development by participating in educational programs, reading current literature, and participating in in-service meetings and workshops.
Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department; maintains, distributes, analyzes and projects information for required records, reports and statistics as directed.
Attends meetings as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Other Descriptive Elements:
The Clinical Pharmacist – Investigational Drug Service typically reports to the Investigational Drug Service Director. The incumbent has the authority to make decisions or commitments that require interpretation of organization policies and procedures. More difficult decisions may be referred to superiors for their recommendations. Decisions are varied and based on broad principles and guidelines.
Relationship with Others:
The Clinical Pharmacist – Investigational Drug Service has considerable contact inside and outside of the department and with other departments, divisions, and patients, vendors or sales representatives.
Functional Responsibilities:
Possesses extensive knowledge of drug protocols, medical therapeutics, pharmacokinetics and disease states.

While performing the duties of this job, the Clinical Pharmacist – Investigational Drug Service is frequently required to talk or hear. The incumbent is regularly required to use hands or fingers to manipulate, touch or handle. They are occasionally required to stand, walk, or sit. The incumbent is regularly required to lift and/or move up to ten (10). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
